Density of PP (Polypropylene)

2026-02-02 11:16:08 Injection Molds

The density (specific gravity) of PP resin is an industry-recognized standard physical parameter and is among the lowest of general-purpose thermoplastics, with stable base density values tested in accordance with international standards such as ASTM D792 and ISO 1183.

Density varies slightly across different grades and modified types of PP, with all values being industry-recognized measured data:

General-purpose injection/extrusion grade PP: 0.900~0.915 g/cm3, typical value 0.905~0.910 g/cm3

Homopolymer PP: 0.905~0.915 g/cm3, slightly higher than copolymer PP

Copolymer PP: 0.900~0.910 g/cm3, with slightly lower density due to rubber phase addition

Inorganic-filled PP (calcium carbonate/talc filled): 0.95~1.25 g/cm3, with higher filler ratios leading to greater density

Glass fiber-reinforced PP (10%~30% glass fiber): 1.00~1.15 g/cm3, with higher glass fiber content leading to greater density

Flame-retardant PP: 0.93~1.05 g/cm3, with halogen-free flame-retardant systems showing smaller density increases than halogenated systems

This density parameter is a core reference for the design and production of automotive parts, home appliance housings, and food packaging containers. Its lightweight nature makes it widely used in energy-saving and emission-reduction products, and density calculation is also a key basis for balancing product cost and performance.
